Okay so i've wired everything up and i'm using the EWS system, the E30 was originally a 318i auto.

The EWS box clicks when the ignition is on and the key is in the ring, fuel pump primes and the relay on the loom with the red wires going into it clicks (I'm assuming this is the starter relay). But the starter does not turn over.

Tried wiring up a different starter again with no luck, this starter worked ok with a direct feed from a battery pack.

From the original auto side of things i've done this, is there anything else i need todo?

Yellow/Black to Yellow/Black under glovebox area.

I've also tried a direct feed from the batt to the starter with no luck, although as soon as the batt is connected up the relay clicks a few times and fuel pump primes with the ignition off.

* What colour wire should EWS pin 3 be connected to on the ignition tumbler? I've got it hooked up to black.

**I also don't seam to have pin 11 on my diagnostic plug to start it this way

No starter relay on a BMW. The relay with the red wires sounds like it may be the DME relay.
EWS (assuming you haven't connected up the starter feed to the EWS module) has nothing to do with the engine cranking.
Pin 11 on the diagnostic socket was deleted with the introduction of EWS.
It looks like you've bypassed the auto starter inhibitor switch correctly in the pic., although the colours on the RH wire aren't clear. Should be black/yellow on both sides.
Pull the plug and socket in the black/yellow apart again and apply 12 volts to the LH wire. This should crank the engine.

Bad earth. I painted my engine arms and block and didn't have a good connection between the two.

Engine now cranks but not enough juice in my battery or battery booster to fire it, fresh day tomorrow and hopefully she will fire :D.

Fired and ran first crank :D, not bad for my first conversion.
