Got massive ground clearance issues on my m52 e30. The sumps about 2 inches from the floor. Its more of a track car than a road car but its still too low. The cars ride height isnt stupidly low, its a 60mm drop and im reluctant to change the suspention as its not cheap stuff and it handles fantastic. I cant raise the engine anymore as the gearbox will hit the tunnell. The only option this leaves me with is to cut the sump up. Has anyone done this/know of a reputable company I could use? My plan is to cut 1.5" out of the bottom and put "wings" on the side to make the oil capacity back up. I would probably letterbox baffle the wings and then obviosly il have to shorten the oil pick up. So has anyone else done this? Im a bit nervous

Interested in this too, my e30 is going on air ride so I'll be lower than you are :o.

How much have you already raised the engine by? I was hoping I could just raise it but it seams a custom sump may be needed to or modify the existing one.

I'v not raised the engine deliberatly, but its sat on e36 cabrio mounts and iv only got a few mm's of clearance for my gear selector as it is. Also id like to keep the engine as low in the car as possible to minimise weight transfer when cornering. Il let you know how i I get on with the cutting

Thanks Dude,

Has anyone else got info on this after using the e28 rubbers? I have yet to fit my engine but i'd rather know now if it's going to be too close to the floor.

Will the sump be the lowest point? Has anyone raised it further than the standard e28 rubbers and not had any issues? If so has it raised it enough?

I'll be using a ZF box if that makes a difference.

Iv used e28 rubbers with 30-40mm spacers, std mounts on gearbox

No issues although it took a big nock last sat and smashed against the rack and snapped the linkage!

Hmm ok, is the sump still the lowest point underneath the car? If it is how much lower is it than the subframe?

These sumps are alloy too, so they tend to crack rather than bend which is unfortunate.

Anyone else got information on this.

I'm now looking to get the e34 pan modified to gain ground clearance, although i don't know how much i can safely remove to maintain a safe amount of oil.

If i can go out sideways to make a wing to hold more oil that would be great but in which direction.

Pictures of the underside of an m52 e30 who be of great help at this stage.

E3irty have you attempted yours yet?
