M52B28 questions (and E36 bits)

Though strictly E36 I thought it better to put it here as its mostly M52 related, but mods feel free to move it should you need to.

First thing is this wire (Arrowed) Where the red circle is the wires are brown. From memory I think this wire is to go to earth, but could someone confirm please



Next is what I guess is the heater control valve on the M52. What controls this? Guessing its the hot/ cold heater control knob in the car, so hence if its on cold it actually stops the hot water entering the heater matrix? Going on this, I'm guessing the water flows out of this valve and into the heater matrix, returning to the engine on the other pipe with no valve on it?



Next the Power block on the E36 located on the Offside inner wing:





Connections A, C and E look like they are joined together, and B and D look like they are joined together

The connections on A and B come from the rear of the car, and E goes to the engine loom (and possibly out the other side to the fuse box.)

So effectively the fuse box is live all the time, is this right?

and connection B isn't connected to anything. Surely it should be?

Next.... E36 M3 Evo... Which is the in and which is the out of the heater matrix?



And finally!

What is this? (also on My E36 Evo)

I've looked up the part number (6411 839 1470) on RealOEM and apparently its only fitted to an E38:

Brown wires are earth, Red are permanent live

The D and B are for the engine loom live connection, the cable from battery has a smaller cable running alongside it (same as E30) which bolts to one of the posts, the engine loom live bolts to the other

The funny box thing is something to do with the elec fan/aircon, ive only ever cut them out so couldnt tell you exactly

Thanks for the help Dan, still a bit confused (Not hard!) What is the smaller cable for that runs parallel with the Battery cable? I've found 2 cables that come out of the engine loom that look like they connect to that block, guessing one goes to the starter motor and would be connected to the big battery cable and the one that goes to the fuse box would be connected to the smaller wire from the battery so:
