Bad Vanos solenoid symptoms

Hi

I have recently fitted a M52 2.8 into my e30 :)

Been having a few teething problems with misfiring, camshaft sensor. Then the engine was missing, bad coil plug and a few 8ther little probs.....so haven't given it a proper test drive yet.

Thought i had it all sorted, went for a proper test drive and it seems very responsive but not as quick as i thought it would be and now when it goes over 3000 revs it feels like a loss of power and at over 4000 the power drops of a lot?

All I can think of is a bad vanos solenoid? Has any one had similar problems and did replacing the solenoid sort it?

Hi Dan, how u doing mate? (U Done my loom the other week)

Had cam sensor fault code yesterday, changed sensor and cleared codes, cured the misfiring then it was missing today on No1 cylinder, changed coil pack and cleared code.

Driving home when I discovered the problems with the power loss with the high revs. Haven't checked the codes since, will do tomorrow.

No misfires now, idles nice just no power when revs go above 3000, especially 4000?

What cam sensor did you fit? non branded £30 sensors are notoriously shite to say the least!

Got cam sensor from eurocar parts £55, although havent had the cam sensor code since fitting & it cured the misfiring.

Will check codes tomorrow & see if anything comes up....

I plugged the scanner in today and these are the codes

217 CAN: Timeout AGS/EGS
68 Tank Venting Valve: Electronic Fault
52 Exhaust Flap Solenoid Valve
100 ECU Selftest

These come straight back after clearing the codes, I dont think they are related to the power loss over 4000rpm but not sure if it is connected to the 217 code?

It was revving better today but coming up to 4000rpm and after the power seems to tail of, were I was expecting it to liven up? To be honest it doesnt feel any quicker to the M20 325i lump its replaced :x

If anyone can shed some light on the problem, would be well apprieciated......[/img]

217 CAN is for the autobox ECU is looking for it guess the loom is from a auto?

did you fix the problems? as my friend has the auto loom and starts very badly back fires and once started its fine

Hi mate

I eventually got the problem sorted. I changed the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel injection rail & it's running great now, idles smooth & revs like it should do.

I got the loom convertered by theDan, highly recommended, he knows his stuff & is very helpful.

Hmm not too sure about your mates car? my one always started & idled ok just wouldnt rev past 3 to 4000rpm
