I have just bought a zf gearbox from a breakers down Middlesboro as I had a getrag 250 box and wanted a zf.
I have the m20 flywheel and clutch to go onto the m52 lump and just been getting everything together for fitting at end of month.
The splined shaft in the new zf box is too thick for the m20 clutch to fit on.
Have I been sold the wrong box?
I still have the getrag 250 box and the clutch fits the shaft perfect.

Any pics of the box? Do you know what it was supposed to have come out of? 328i box will work with an M20 clutch fine

Was meant to be 328i dan but is one on ebay that looks exactly the same from a e46 328i. I asked for linkage and he gave me e46 linkage from a compact that was in their yard and it fits spot on. My e30 m3 prop fits ok.
Looking at it next to the getrag it is longer and much chunkier.
Where will i find the part numbers? Is a few numbers stamped on it.

I have found the following numbers on the box 1065 401 045 226 with 2107-3 under it next to the BM roundel and on other side 2148-2 with 226 under it.
Anyone got any idea what it is? :?

Looks like it might be a 6 speed. Run through the gears and see how many there are in the box.

Its a 5 spd 320d box mate :-x
Rang the breakers and got to take it back on saturday, apparently their computer said it was a 328i box but i doubt it. I cleaned it with gunk and you can feintly see where someone has wrote on it in the past, e46 320d 5spd.
Looking for 320i prop and going with the getrag 250 box. Probably keep my e30 m3 prop for later on but might put it for sale on here.
