Rocker cover to inlet elbow pipe

I just noticed in one of cooks pics he has a pipe running from the rocker cover to the intlet elbow, is this needed or can it be done away with? I was going to stick a little filter on it as I thought it wasnt needed.

As long as you block the hole at the other end, under the intake bellows, you will be OK.

Thats grand, I made my own intake elbow and didn't make it with a T-off for that hose.
