Engine mounts

Would it be safe enough to use only 3 bolts on the engine mounts? I snapped one of the bolts, tried welding a stud/nut on it but no luck and I've now just broken an extractor bit in the old bolt

Couple nuts later I managed to get some of the bolt out, it snapped again only further down the bolt hole

Im guessing there was no bolt in there before and you didnt tap the thread clean?
The only way your going to get that out now is with some very precise drilling and then pick the remains of the thread out

Probably, I can't remember when I put the mounts on but I didn't tap the threads anyway, I've done more or less every other hole now since I removed everything bolted on.

I tapped the extractor with a punch and it fell through under the bolt left overs, welding didn't work. Drilling is next, I've some deox-c rust eater soaking and i'll give it some wd40 tonight and try one more time with a bolt welded on before I go drilling.

I would go to sleep with your fingers crossed
If you can get another nut welded to it before trying to undo it get a blowtorch on the surrounding alloy casting

After lots of messing and a broken hex bit I got the bolt and left over extractor out! Re-tapped the thread and all seems good again.

I'm close to buying 8x new bolts from BMW, worth doing or will I just get normal bolts from a hardware store?

They are a funny length for the alloy blocks, cant remember but just make sure you copper grease/oil them before fitting

They also have a little nib on the end of them, what ever it might be for I don't know.

I've put some grease on the bolts that I've threaded back in. Shouldn't have to take anything of again though.
