ive moved up from doing just a vanos rebuild and im now thinking of shimming the lifters aswell... along with anything else that can quite down this ticky engine with a missfire. (its not bottom end)
im making up some cam locking blocks, and have ordered all the seals and gaskets for the vanos rebuild and have a set of shims ready.
Is there anything i should do while im at it / anything i should know?
what are the spacing for the lifters inlet and exhaust?

The lifters are hydraulic, you cant adjust them, if they are ticking they could be blocked or your oil might be the wrong grade

the oil is 5w30 mobil from opie
could it be possible that i am not getting the correct oil supply from the sump? could explain the strange missfire aswell as the vanos unit would also be getting insufficient oil pressure...

Its always a possibility, whats the general condition inside the cam cover? If its full of black crud (few oil changes) then the lifters are likely to be blocked, could be worth rigging up an oil pressure gauge otherwise
