Just put an m50 into my 318i and it runs realy lumpy and has a misfire and flat spot between 1000 and 2000rpm. Seems to work fine flat out, and it also idles erratically and cuts out every time i stop. I had never driven the doner car but i dont remember it running that poorly or i wouldnt have used it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like it could be an air leak, inlet manifold seals or inlet pipe, vaccuum hose or anything.

check that the swan neck type rubber pipe that goes from the idle control value into the back of the inlet manifold is seated correctly, there is a little stub that comes off the pipe too, check that is blocked off
