I didn't have one, you should ave seen what I had to do to get mine out
, made it using 2 long bolts and a couple of washers lol. Did the trick though

Yes mate they can both be used but.....
M40 box =318 or 320 prop (longer front section)
M42 box =325 prop (minus the vibration damper)
if using the m42 box a new m20 spiggot bearing is needed (12mm hole)

A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better

With the m42 box I used my 320 linkage yoke, it sits in the hole in the tunnel slightly forward but I overcome this by using a z3 short shift lever rotated 180 degrees.
I'm not sure which linkage is used with the m40 box, I do know that its slightly shorter than the m42 box hence needing the slightly longer 320 prop.
