Basically I'm looking at buying a '95 328i engine and I've asked whether the seller has all the EWS parts to go with it, he replied that he doesn't think it has EWS and couldn't find anything suggesting it had EWS fitted after he removed the engine. I was under the impression that all M52s had EWS hence why I'm asking this question. I don't mind wiring EWS but I don't want to buy a motor that needs it and doesn't come with it!
Thanks
Did all E36 M52B28 come with EWS?

It will have EWS, it is just that all the EWS kit is hidden behind the dashboard.
You need the original keys for the car (the ignition key contains a chip)
the receiver ring from around the ignition barrel
the ECU
The EWS box and the wiring from it (located behind glovebox)

Thanks for the advice. Damn it! It was a good price as well, but if I can't get it running without buying matched ECU/EWS sets then it's not much use to me...

If i understand corrrectly it won't start without EWS? If that's correct (it may well not be, i'm speculating
) then it'd be at least worth going to see the car, if it starts then yes it has the EWS still in place

what you done with your key/chip and the receiver ring??
have you just taped the key to the ring and stuck it under the dash?
or have you stuck the receiver ring on the barrel and put the chip in your key?

You will need the ECU and matching EWS module minimum, the matching key can be ordered with the vin number like Will says

Just been looking on ebay for complete ecu/ews set up and came across couple people offering ews removal or bypass. Removal is £100 and got to send them your ecu and bypass is £50 for DIY relay looking thing. Anyone else seen these?
