I've currently got a non vanos m50b25 in my track car, but want more power.

Has anyone upgraded from the above to an m52b28 and if so thought it was worthwhile, or should I save up for an s50?

Thanks.

I've driven all 3 flavors, and the m52 is a good upgrade from the m50 especially with a few choice mods. s50 is my personal favorite tho!

i went from a non vanos m50 to an m52b28 and i dont regret it at all. After having this m52 there is no way in this world i would own another m50'd one. An s50 is better again but it is also alot more expensive.

Thanks guys - I thinking the m52 should give more than enough power with a set of cams, m50 manifold etc.

Cook - what box and diff are you using? I've currently got a 328 'box and 3.63 (I think) diff, acceleration is great, but is doing 5000rpm at 90mph - which wasn't much fun driving to and from the 'ring last weekend!

im using the 328i box and an e30 m3 3.25 lsd. I used to have a 3.64 diff on it so i know what you mean about the revving! Loads of fun but almost undrivable in the wet!

Has the diff change made much difference? Is the 328 box the best to use?

The diff has made ALOT of difference. I couldnt pull away very well in the damp with the 3.64 and m52 - it was a bit of a deathtrap in the wet if im honest!

It depends on your defination of "best". It is probably stronger than the other gearbox options available but the sensible diff ratios to match the m52 'box cost alot more because they aren't very common.
