I've just taken an M52 out of a 728i. I'm wandering what the 2 ECU's and the other module in the far right hand corner are for. Obviously one is for the engine control. What are the others for? The car was an auto and had cruse control.

Thanks

Mark

On the E36 I molested, it was an auto and the engine and auto box ecu were stacked on top of each other.

Not sure but the box ecu may have been a bosch item where as the engine ECU is Siemens. No idea what the 3rd one is on your car.

BSS will be your man to answer this

I'm guessing too. The third box belongs with the car not the engine. Two plugs on the loom and the car are very simmilar!

Cheers guys

This is a pic from the E36 328i that I broke for the engine etc, showing the Engine ECU, plus the EWS bits that need to be robbed

And in this pic, at the top right you can see the 2 connectors from the loom for the engine ECU and auto box ECU, the ecu's lived in the opening on the bulkhead

Cheers chap. I'm going down the megasquirt route with mine due to application. Don't really need to know what they're foor too much but it's nice to know what I'm about to chop!

My mate who built the MS thinks that he'll be able to use the existing ecu casing and wiring loom which will be really helpfull.
