thanx a lot pall, a nice clear shopping list
, just what i was looking for. all i need now is a running e36/e34 turd. i take it if i want to just go for the 2.5 the list would be the same except the obvious... (engine+loom), the only bit im unsure of now though is custom loom?? by that do you mean cutting the bottom round plug off from e30 fusebox and wiring it to the bottom of m50 plug? many thanks- ant

That's one shopping list, but I have a M50 engined E30 and didn't source anything at that list! There's more than one way of doing it.
any chance you could share your list/spec with me brian? new to this but definatly going to do it! just want something definative so that i can go out and source exactly what i need. please be kind to me haha, the stickied thread goes off onto s50's ect and just fried my head. i understand the practical side of things but i need to know what parts, cheers mate

One of the members (Danthe) here can alter your loom, for a modest fee, to fit the M50 so it becomes a plug and play solution. To save yourself a whole load of stress I'd send him the loom and the required number of beer tokens and it'll be done both properly and quickly.e30-dk wrote:thanx a lot pall, a nice clear shopping list, just what i was looking for. all i need now is a running e36/e34 turd. i take it if i want to just go for the 2.5 the list would be the same except the obvious... This conversion was done many years ago, before I even knew about the zone:
I started with a M50B25Tu from an E34 mated to the gearbox from a M50B20 E36, added E36 M50 alloy engine mounts, sitting on standard M20 E30 engine rubbers. The LH mount was rotated, and the RH mount had anew hole drilled for its locating peg.
Prop was E30 325, with bolt holes drilled out.
Gearshift: E36 320.
Exhaust manifold is a cut and welded cast item (328 tubulars were like gold dust back then!), done professionally for me by a welder in return for sorting an electrical fault in his workshop. Can't remember if it was E34 or E36, or even one of each.
Brake servo mount is redrilled, plated, and moved 25mm (IIRC) sideways.
Steering column moved sideways 30mm at the bulkhead, which also needed mods to the clutch pedal.
Exhaust system is standard E30 325 from the mount on the gearbox backwards, with the gap to the manifold filled in with pipes fabricated from bits of various exhaust systems lying around.

thats a clever way of doing it mate
, think im going to use the mk1/2 golf servo for that part, take it to a mate who owns prospeed custom exhausts in cardiff and get him to make the manifold fit and at the same time give me a 2 piece system right back. the only thing thats bothering me now brian is this.... the wiring diagram you wrote in the stick thread (where you cut the plug off e30 fusebox), i coppied it down on a sheet of a4 and went to my car just now and it seems i have about 5/6 wires left and they dont match any of the colours on the e34 side? my car is a 1989 320i se (with a knackered b25 in at the mo) if this helps. this is the only thing thats buggin me about the whole job if im honest, wondering if you can help?
