I have an m42 engine on a 318i getrag gearbox. Can I use this for an m52 conversion?
Also I have a great LSD from an IS. Can I keep my small case diff and prop? Has anyone done it or will the gearing be ridicoulous? is that the only reason people swap to large case diff and prop?

I've got a 318 box on the back of my M50, using a 320i linkage and prop. Gearing wise nothing will change if you're keeping the same bits. Personally I've no experience of the small case diff strength wise on an M52 though.

A 4.10 diff will be no good for a M52B28 gearing will be no good at all

I'm using a 3.91 LSD from a 325 on my conversion with the iS gearbox and it's a little busy at motorway speeds, acceleration is quite lively though.
Ideally I'd be looking for a 3.64 or 3.73 LSD.
The iS LSD is quite rare so you'll probably get a decent price for it, enough to get a better ratio LSD swapped in there
