I made an m50 swap on my e30, the engine is a 2.5 24v....done 2.8 by HARTGE I don't really know the power probably around 240 bhp....and my question is what diff should I install.....now I think I have 3.64 open ....but I found a 3.25 LSD and I wonder if it's ok for squeezing the power from the engine. The gearbox came with the engine it's getrag ....and I also wanna ask you if I can install an oil cooler....thanks guys

If you are using an E30 gearbox the 3.25LSD may make it a bit lazy with acceleration, but will allow low revs at cruising speeds

If you are using E30 gearbox I'd recommend you try and get a 3.64 or 3.73 LSD

The 3.25 ratio LSD will be fine with that gearbox

I've got a 3.73 LSD in perfect working order, if you decide that is what you want :)

3.25 is still going to be on the short side with 240 bhp behind it. It'll be the equivalent of 4.01 with an E30 gearbox.
2.95 is more like what you want. This will give very similar speeds in fourth gear to what you now get in fifth.

you think it's to short 3.25? but it will make a difference from what I have now?....cause I don't really think I can find that ratio around my zone here....the 3.25 I found it at 200eur....

the 3.25 will be almost perfect, top speed will be about 140mph and you will get there very quickly........

The 3.25 will give you gearing similar to standard 115 bhp 4 pots.

to the original poster....

drive 328i e36, then decide if you want it to be shorter, but remeber the e30 is about 200Kg lighter.

my point too...my 328i feels slow (it isn't though) and i've elected to add a short shifter to E36 gearbox because they are same as M3 iirc and then mate my 328 prop to a E30 325 diff/prop...for the first run i'm keeping the E30 316 diff in there (unless it blows LOL) to see what happens

I'm putting a 2,8 imto mine and i have similar turmoil, good luck

I think I will mount the 3.25 diff see how it turns out to be ...because at the moment I don't have another option and if it's not what I need..... I will return it to the guy( he's a friend of mine)

the internals can be swoped over, but mounting the diff is different ball game

a small case diff from your e30 will be too short, and shit it self

What would the tag on a diff 2.93 read, is it "307 0937"?
