Not sure, Ive not seen any figures, but knowing the guys who built it, I would be surprised if there wasnt gains - they have apparently done good work on a few Porsches.
Im sure Dave must have some before and after figures.

Well...
Spent a half hour or so a day for the last coupla days reading this beast of a thread
some awesome info in here albeit some of it mixed up with s50 conversion talk.
I have a couple of questions:
I'll be putting a deposit on a 325i m50 either today or tomorrow, and hopefully either collecting or getting it delivered next week. It's an engine w/box, so what i'm wondering is would it be worth keeping the box that comes with the engine, or would one of the other options be preffered (m42 box + m20 lightened fly + m20 starter + what prop?) due to the dual mass clutch on the m50?
What brake upgrades are recommended? Mine's a 318i poverty spec, so marvelous drums on the rear
And finally, does anyone have exact measurements for the changes needed to be made to the m52 manifolds so that i could just have them sent off to a fabricator with instructions instead of having to wait til the conversion's done and send the car off to get it done? I'll be getting the e36 rack swap done while the engine's out and if i understand correctly there's slightly more mani modification needed in this instance?
Thanks for the info in the thread so far guys, and any assistance with my questions above would be much appreciated

Did you read my thread phil?
even though its for an M52, the same work applies to the M50 swap.
Doesn't matter what gearbox you use really. use whichever box suits the LSD you can get hold of really.
I would probably pick an M42 box as its alittle more straight forward and the ratios are closer together on it than the other gearboxes and it'll be plenty strong enough for what you want.
For brakes, a decent set of vented fronts and rear discs will do fine unless you want to go alittle fancier and have more stopping power with 4-pots.
The manifolds only need minor tweaking in places for the standard rack but for the E36 rack, they need a good deal more but nothing impossible.

Yeah i'm pretty sure i read it a week or two ago amongst all the other m5x conversion threads i've been cramming into my head
How does the m42 box work out as being more straight forward? The kit i'll be getting is the one Ben's selling, i'm putting the deposit on it today, it's the full engine/box/loom etc so i was considering not changing the box and flywheel and stuff since it'll already have a useable box attached to it.
Yeah, it'll be the e36 rack going in when the engine does come out. Does anyone have the measurements? I'd rather be able to drop the mani's off to be fabricated than have to get the car transported somewhere to get them cut n shut

wanted- all parts for m52 conversion

Yeah, that servo looks like the right one.
@ Phil.
The M42 box is more straight forward as there is little more straight forward as its all E30 parts needed for it to work and you don't need a 2.93-3.38 diff. A common E30 3.64-4.1 etc will work with the iS box. The E36 328 clutch and flywheel will fit inside the M42 box fine anyway but I wouldn't use it as dual-mass flywheels are very gay!
I'll be doing another M52 swap over Christmas if you want me to sort a set of manifolds for you.
I must make a jig this time for them as I didn't have time to do it for the last one.

Yeah that'd be awesome Dave.
So...
m42 box, m20 clutch w/lightened flywheel, m20 gear linkages + current z3 shortshifter/bearing.
Is that right?
@Garymillscab: off topic, but whereabouts in b'mouth you from? I grew up in littledown

im nearly finished doing a m52 conversion using the m42 box and can assure you the duel mass does not fit as i was hoping to use for the moment, it hits the bell housing..
