I had that showing on the way to the 'Ring playing catch up.. Only thing is, I still had ~1.5k rpm to go and it was still pulling rather wellDaf318is wrote:

I've not V-Maxed mine yet, it's in need of a bit of alignment.. Not the most stable chariot!
Not even looking forward to it, but it has to be done eh?
Oh and, 400bhp is more than 100bhp per litre in any of BMW's 6 potters.. on a 3 litre car it'd be 133.33333333 bhp per litre....

I know just making a point there is no need to splash money everywhere, reliability is more down to human error in building or using wrong parts and tuning mistakes than outright blaming standard parts upto this rule of thumb level. Uprating known failure items is one thing but to uprate all internals just because adding little bit more boost is unfortunate on your wallets.DanThe wrote:100bhp per cylinder? Were not building dragsters you know
Its a common missassumption if your doubling power your doubling strain on the engine infact could only adding as much as 20% as indicated by peak cylinder pressures, the power is gained because the burn is going on just a fraction longer not that its just simply a bigger bang.

Back on topic. I am building an M50B30. Basicly doing it by (deep intake of breath)
M50 block bored out to 86mm
M52 crank and rods
S50 pistons (custom little end bushes needed)
decked block 0.5mm
shrick cams (bob's old ones I believe)
lightened fly and uprated clutch
remapped m50 none vanos ecu
Thanks to an idea from Danthe along with plenty of advice parts and comp ratio calcs.

What kind of power are the M50b30s making?
Fella I know is selling a B30 just after being built and gearbox at the moment.

Think my mates engine is for sale at around 1600 or something. Didn't think they'd make 275+ even with the cams...

I may be wrong it's just a gestimation. We will know soon enough.
I will be happy with it in and running to be honest £1600 is cheep for a 3lt M50 I reckon. I have 1 bag in mine so far.

Yeah, 1600 or 1700... might be worth sticking it up in the for-sale section here actually.
I put it up on e30owners but being Ireland...
People thought it was too expensive when they could pick up an S50 for the same money...
Of course the fact that the engine was fully rebuilt and ready to go in rather than an S50 needing another 1000 quids worth of an exhaust etc didn't come into it

Yeah, I'm not too sure really how they did it...
Closest I can think of is 3.02 with S50b32 pistons and S50b30 crank and rods.
The M54 crank isn't a great fit for the M50 block though, is it?
Seems to ring a bell with Dan mentioning it somewhere.

Yeh
Would have been easier to buy a M3 Evo and just drive it but not what I wanted.
To be honest this thing has evolved from ne stage to the next. Didn't set out to build a crazy M50 but here we are

Big ends on the s50 crank are miles too big to fit a M50 block I have the crank the pistons came from and the rods.Dave_M3 wrote:Yeah, I'm not too sure really how they did it...

Dan has a M54 bottom ended M52 so if it goes in m52 it will go in M50 no?

Wouldn't it be easier to build an M52B30 using,
M52 head
M50 block
M54B30 crank, rods and pistons.
can you use the m52 head on the m50 block one is vanos the other is not. would that not be an issue? or will it run the same still retaining the vanos unit?
