M52 Engine wiring loom with red label DME

Hi,
I have an E36 engine wiring loom from 1996 328i and a M50 red label DME, the DME is not connecting up to the 1996 wiring loom, as the the notch on the loom does not match up with the notch on the DME.

I would like to know if this is due to the fact that M52 wiring loom is not able to connect up to M50 DME?

Please can anyone advise what DME I need for connecting up with the 1996 wiring loom?

M50 used a Bosch ECU. 2.8i M52 uses a much more advanced Siemens ECU MS41.0 which is not interchangeable.
It's possible to connect a Bosch ECU with its matching loom to a M52, and it will run, but it's a considerable backward step over using the correct loom and ECU.
