Evening all

Currently running an m52 through a 318is gearbox and a 427 open diff small casing.

I like the shortness of the gears as the car is built as a B road blaster.

I am at the stage where I've removed the rear subframe for new bushes and powder coat.

I really want an LSD with a ratio as high as 410 to 427. I am going to contact some people (birds) about making my diff an LSD.

My question really is will an M52 kill a small case diff or shafts? I've only driven a couple of 1000 miles since the conversion.

Or

Would should I be sourcing a medium case and shafts. Or could I have my diff converted so it will last

What is it that fails when it does?

Anyone made a small case fail with an m52

You really want a medium case LSD. the small case units are know for their ability to split the spool in two. If you MUST use it, replace the spool end cap with a steel one, they're on ebay.

A proper 4.27 188mm LSD isn't a cheap thing to buy or build but if you can find a 188mm diff in that ratio, that's half the battle. You may get lucky (4 pot E28 diffs... ;) )and find one cheap, otherwise expect to pay £150 - 250 for the CW&P alone, but that can then be built into a E30 LSD.

or use a E36 3.0 m3 spool if you find one cheap, that'll work too

I spend a lot of time building LSD's up from all sorts of donor diffs so give me a shout. Happy to take it on for you if you can find all/some of the bits. It certainly won't cost as much as Birds!
