Just test dropped in my M50 today, seems the sump fouls the E46 rack by quite a bit it seems
Has anyone got a m50 e30 with a E46 rack? If so does it work ? Did you space the mounts up? Use different mounts?
Iv got the E36 arms on (36 motor 34 sump)

Also both manifolds foul ,front on the rack (I knew this was going to happen) rear manifold fouls on the steering shaft joints? I wasn't aware that this would happen

Shouldn't hit the sump. Have you got the rack spacers above or below the rack?

Rack itself is the same size and in exactly the same place as an E30 one. It's the different angle of the steering shaft into the rack and slightly different positioning of pipework that causes problems.

spacers are on the top of the rack, so this should put the rack further away from the sump
the rack is definitely a larger diameter, not a lot and not enough to make it foul over a std rack
just got std E30 rubber mounts in.

Thats the problem then, you should be using E28 M5 'round' mounts which are nearly twice as tall as E30 M20 mounts

There's literally tons of pages within the m5x swap section detailing what you have to use and it is mentioned in the wiki:

AKG mounts are a better option if it will see track use.

no track use at all
i know pretty much everything on the conversion, i have converted my other E30 to M30
may have over looked the fact that they are taller mounts
