hi just need some questions awnsered if people know :)

1. which way do the lamb sensors plug in

2. where to mount the power steering reseviour

3. which way does the pipes go on for the power steering reseviour

4. on wiki the chart for wiring up the engine it says for e36 to e30 1987-88 but my cars a 91 does that matter

theres probably some more but i can't think off the top of my head!

Hello Jon, if you're talking about the M52 motor the lambda sensor on the front bank / manifold plugs into the one toward the rear of the fuel rail and vice versa (so basically the opposite way to what you'd think would be logical).

I kept my PAS reservoir mounted to the bracket attached to the engine that it came out of the donor car on so no dramas there.

The pipe that comes up and over the rear of your steering rack and behind the crossmember goes onto the pump, the other PAS pipe goes to the reservoir.

Wiring wise don't sweat it as yours will probably be even easier to wire if it's anything like mine was (1991 318iS shell) as I seem to recall that all of the wire colours between the M52 loom and the E30 body loom were the same. Having said that though, follow the wiring tables from the wiki rather than blindly wiring all of the same colours together on my say so and end up with a burnt out E30!

Hope that helps!

The crankcase breather on the rocker cover has to be plumbed into the inlet. You can bin the pcv and use a catch can if you like, but you still need to plumb it into the inlet to ensure no excess crankcase pressure.

ok cheers for the help :) with the pcv i was going to keep it but it was smashed would it be best to get new parts and keep it? i can easily weld the pipe into the dipstick. just though it might run abit better with it deleted and running into a catch can?

cheers

The most common way (easiest and cheapest) way of removing the PCV is to route a pipe from the breather straight into the inlet and block off the drain connection on the dipstick tube. All you need is a plastic y-piece or t-piece to fit into the ICV plug in the intake boot - one will go to the ICV, the other to the breather.

I believe - based on a bit of research (somebody will soon shoot me down if I'm wrong, which would be good - as this is what I'm planning to do and I'd like to know if it's a cr*p idea), the BEST way would be to use a catch can that drains to the dipstick tube. Have one pipe from breather to can and another from can to intake, via a small filter. The idea being that the crankcase pressure remains neutral, but any oil vapour condenses and/or is filtered by the can/filter arrangement. Meaning fuel isn't being diluted by oil vapour at high rpm.

Either way, the breather has to be plumbed into the inlet to prevent a build-up in crankcase pressure - which can result in blown oil seals, piston ring blow-by and all kinds of nasty things.
