Fuel pump shouldn't be running if the crankshaft's not turning.
Has this engine ever cranked on the key since the engine conversion, or is this a problem that has developed since? There is no relay for the starter solenoid in a manual gearbox E30. Solenoid is switched directly by the ignition switch.

Fuel pump didnt seem to run when i bridged the solanoid either.
No the engine hasn't cranked off the key at all.
the e30 was an auto if that makes any difference.

Have you reconfigured the black/yellow starter wire to remove the auto gearbox start inhibitor?

It's well documented on the zone, and probably in the wiki as well!
Find two black/yellow wires connected to two black wires by single pole plugs and sockets above the glove box area. Pull both of them apart, and plug the two black/yellows together.
The blacks are part of a separate loom that goes to a relay, and this relay and loom can be removed.
