Started to wire up the e36 engine loom to the e30 c101 plug .
Terminal 7 is a thick green wire from the e30 plug that goes to the green wire in the e 36 loom.i have two thin green wires in the e36 engine loom.do I connect both to the single wire from the plug or is there a specific one ? Thanks
Another wiring loom question

Connect all plain greens together. It's just that the E30 loom has a joint where it splits later on in the loom, while it appears your E36 loom splits them at the plug.
The green wire provides a 'switch on' signal to the ECU and feeds the + side of the ignition coil(s).

Doesn't that change to black/purple on the engine loom?DanThe wrote:Do not join all the green wires together, one of these is the EWS signal wire, if you put 12v to it the ECU will not allow the engine to start

Looking at the diagram in the '96 BMW electrical trouble shooting manual, which covers the (USA) 318i, 320i, 325i, 328i and M3, it looks like the wire is black/purple on every model except the 328i. Strange, to say the least, that BMW chose plain green for a digital signal wire.

Yep, they did do some strange things, ive found anything that uses a siemens ECU has a green, it just seems to be the early stuff that has the black/purple, the same pin/wire was also used for another purpose on some vehicles, cant remember what exactly now, drive away signal or something
The EWS wire from ECU (pin10) to X20 on my '99 E36 M44 is black/purple. I only had my wiring charts for the M52 and S50B32 which both showed it as green.
As Dan said, the black/purple wire (pin10 ECU) is listed as drive away signal on the ECU pinout chart I found for the E36. This is connected to the green wire from the EWS module on my conversion.

Ok so I need to strip the tape off the loom and see which green wire goes to the ecu and the other should go to the coil packs ?
So pin 10 on the ecu is the ews signal wire ,I will follow that from the plug and check the colour .

Need some help guys.popped into the guys a cr mtech on Friday .whilst there chris checked a e36 328 loom for me. Coming out of the engine loom bulkhead plug is a thick green wire and About an inch from the plug there is a thin green wire soldered into it .my loom had the bulkhead plug cut off it when I got it .checked the 2 thin green wires and I have and eliminated the wire to the ecu for the ews (one of the thin green wires) .i have one more thin green wire but no sign of the thick green wire? The only one I can find in the loom goes from a relay mounted near the ecu plug and goes to the plug for the coil packs.this wire has no soldered join in it. Any ideas about why I there is no green wire ?
My loom is out of a 96 328 and the car we checked at cr mtech was a 97 328
