Traced the ticking sound down to the injectors using a long screwdriver as a stethoscope.

I was under the impression M5x injectors were much quieter than the old E30 stuff! Besides, sometimes it's louder than others. I'm going to check fuel rail fitting and all connections to fuel rail and cam sensor as well as vacuum hoses...but is there anything else I should be looking for? Do I need to worry at all?

hi

i just sorted mine out ...kind off. i had the same ticking sound from injectors. i dont know how much its got to do with them but my hose thats going to dipstick welded pipe was bended and as i used clear hose i could see oil stoped inside it. i just put a new hose with propper flow now and injectors went silent. ive erased adaptation values before ive started the car. It seems like engine venting was not good.

That drain pipe to dipstick tube is blocked off on mine as I don't have the oil re-circulation valve fitted. Breather goes straight to a Y-fitting in the intake boot, the ICV being the other connection there.

Anyway last night I checked the fuel rail, made sure all vacuum/breather hoses were sealed, made sure manifold was properly torqued down and pulled the camshaft sensor, gave it a clean with petrol then replaced it. Checked that electrical connections for the camshaft sensor, crank sensor and VANOS solenoid were all good. Re-assembled and...

...noise has gone...
