Hi guys,

I'm wondering about the vacuum unit, the small black cylinder on the nearside of the engine. there are two vacuum lines coming from this: one that goes to the inlet manifold and, I assume, the other goes to the brake servo right?

As I've deleted the servo and am using a floor-mounted pedal box, can I remove this vacuum unit completely and plug the hole in the manifold? Or does it serve some other purpose?

Cheers!

Sounds like you're describing the carbon cannister - part of the fuel tank venting system.
Pipe leading to the inlet manifold must be blanked off.
Same applies to the servo pipe - must be blanked off.

I don't think it is - isn't the carbon cannister the large black cylinder beneath the inlet manifold? That had a blue pipe going into it.

I mean this, mounted to the block beneath the starter motor - not my engine but it has the exact same bit.

it's for the vacuum flap in the exhaust back box on an e36 328i, bin it if it's going in an e30.

Thanks mate, simpler the better. Will plug the little nipple in the inlet manifold where it takes its feed from then :)
