i need to fit a new elbow onto my throttle body, there are 2 breather pipes going into the bottom, can i reun these into a catch tank or have they got to be sealed.remember when i removed my filler cap when running i got poor running because of pressure or something, might just be talking crap though.....
The 2 elbows going into the belows are ICV and crank breather aren't they?
ICV will need to stay.
Crank breather can be removed as long as the hole in the belows is sealed. I had mine running like this for ages and have only just connected it up as it's going for an inspection and it may be important for emmisions reasons that crank breather is not venting to atmosphere.
My M20, before I removed it, always ran with crank vented to atmosphere in all the time I had it.
Tired old engines with loads of blow-by can run much better with a catch can, and the throttle body doesn't get all gunked up.

By the way, you are talking about the hoses going into the throttle bellows aren't you?
As far as I remember the throttle body itself only has plumbing for the engine coolant heating (which can be disconnected) and possibly from the fuel tank evaporative emmisions valve.
The manifold has the other end of the ICV and vacuum for brake servo, and another vacuum pipe for something or other I think.

yes mate, the bellows, want to fit a catch tank to breather.need to keep the icv connected then
Oil filler cap, dipstick tube, and crank case breather do not need to be airtight as long as the hole in the throttle bellows is stopped up. In the default setup when you take the oil filler cap off unmetered air enters the intake via the crank case breather.
So you're fine (from an engine running point of view) blocking the hole in the bellows and using a catch can on the breather tube. It's possible (but unlikely) that the MOT tester may take a dim view as part of the emissions measures are now bypassed.
Leave the ICV hoses where they are.
