quick one guys, is the e30 m40 box exactly the same as the e36 m40 box?

As far as I know they are mate, 320 prop needed with this box
A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better winkeye :D

Also as i found out last night my m40 gearbox from an l-reg e30 touring has the right size shaft to fit the m50/52 spigot bearing.

I had already change it for the small one too :cry:

So moral of the story is check first :?

^ aw what a bitch lol, hope you have a bearing puller to make life easier :?

I didn't have one, you should ave seen what I had to do to get mine out 8O, made it using 2 long bolts and a couple of washers lol. Did the trick though :)

Yes mate they can both be used but.....

M40 box =318 or 320 prop (longer front section)

M42 box =325 prop (minus the vibration damper)

if using the m42 box a new m20 spiggot bearing is needed (12mm hole) 8)

With the m42 box I used my 320 linkage yoke, it sits in the hole in the tunnel slightly forward but I overcome this by using a z3 short shift lever rotated 180 degrees.

I'm not sure which linkage is used with the m40 box, I do know that its slightly shorter than the m42 box hence needing the slightly longer 320 prop.

iirc i've seen other people that have used the m40 box saying that they also used the m20 linkages :) hth
when i finally do mine i'll confirm this for you as this is the route i intend to go
