Engine one:
I've just bought an e36 328i with a full MOT and low mileage.
The body is sound, but who knows what a full year will do to it...
My plan is to source M50 bits and bobs to squeeze more power from it, then to sell the engine and ancilliaries on the zone for a 24V conversion.
Engine two:
I've also bought an M52b25 which is bare. The last owner said it was using coolant. But then he wasn't too sharp and I suspect he hadn't bled it properly...
...I do know it did not overheat.
Plans:
a, find ways to check the compression and for leaks without stripping the engine- my compression tester showed no results as I turned the engine by hand (clearly too slow). I intend to stand the engine inclined and to fill the water jacket. I'll then turn it by hand and look for water coming out of the exhaust or spilling into the sump.
b, if a problem is clear I'll split the engine and check the head gasket.
c, clearly knackered gasket- replace and nail the engine back together.
d, intact gasket- strip engine and sell internals.
So, my queries:
Are Head bolts reusable or stretch items?
How else can I test the engine before stripping it?
If I fit m50b25tu cams and manifold to the b28 do I need to find another ecu?
Are M50b20tu cams worth swapping in?
Newbie to M52s...
