M52 power, with no power steering

Looking at the 2.8 i'v just got,
it seems that the power steering pump runs off the same belt as the alternator,
i dont have power steering, and dont want it, i like a more direct feel thru the steering,
so....

can i get a smaller belt that still runs the alt,
but allows me to remove the power steering pump ?

or do i just disconnect the pipes and leave the pump in situ spinning/but not working ?

Remove the pump, run a piece of string around the pullies to get the length which you can use to order a belt with from most motor parts
