Right, i was going to get bilstein b8's with h&r springs but its not very far off the price of coilovers. I'm looking at the gaz coilovers from RPM at the moment so can anybody recommend me some some fast road springs rates to use with my m52 up the front and whats the ride quality of using these coilovers? I want something that not crashy and comfy to drive on. Can anybody recommend me some decent adjustable front topmounts too? I read that uwe isn't making them anymore :(
I want some stance , something like dan320is's old 318iS...

You really dont need coilovers for a road car, I would always use B8's as they give a much nicer ride and are still plenty firm enough for the twistys.

I will be knocking up some topmounts when I get chance so will let you know how I get on

I want to get the ride height spot on which is easier to do with coilovers, i've got plenty of time to decide though becuase i want to get the hartge refurbed before i get the suspension sorted.
When i first started getting bits for my m50 everybody was saying the 60/40 is waaay to low for a 24ver but now people are saying 60/40 is alright :? Im defo interested in the topmounts though.

I havent seen them before rav, but their website doesn appear to be working in the e30 section?

surely you must be into well over £800+ for coilovers worth bothering with?

Or in addition to Cook mate, how about making your own with Billy B8's?

I dont like the idea of diy coilovers if i'm honest. I know its a case of "if its done properly theres no problems", but this car has had all the quality stuff done to it. Bodging coilovers onto expensive dampers doesn't sound to brilliant to me if im honest.

I've taken a look at some of the better quailty coilovers which look immense (alot better than the cheaper options!), i'm thinking i should stay with the billy+ h&r idea 8O

Ive got some second hand H&R coilovers on the track slag, when I checked out the new price I nearly fainted

B8's and H&R's get my vote :D

Making your own isn't bodging! It is not a lot different to what the manufacturers themselves do!

However, B8's and H&R race is a very good combo!

Maybe i've been around my mate too much. Hes all welded diffs and diy coilovers.

The problem with the h&r springs though is that i want a decent amount of rake. H&r only do a kit of 50mm or a kit of 35mm not a 50/35mm kit or the likes of that :(

I guess you got them made up and that you can't buy them? I presume that they sit on the bottom of the spring? I like the idea though :D

Just looking into it properly and the only 50mm springs are for the 325iX - there shouldnt be any difference though between them and normal 6 pot springs should there?

55mm front 35mm rear here - these are for 4 pot but 52mm strut

I went for 6 pot springs in the end, was thinking about those above, but a chromie needs more on the rear

Weitec are the budget arm of KW I believe, the Weitec stuff is made by KW put it that way.

Just get the bigger drop H&R and then sort the rears out like Dan suggested if you're going for the jacked up Cortina look :)

Ask someone like Tomson about the iX front struts, I know they look quite different, but so long as the spring cradle is the same diameter and the height on the leg not massively different they should do the job I reckon.

Anybody with a lathe can make them, those are 20mm, you can get the rubber pads up to 10mm

You cant go wrong with a 60/40 kit for your ally block donk 8)

I will have some kw 60-40 springs for sale soon.

If you want coilover fast road spring rates there's a thread in 'Motorsport' on it.
