So got a e35 535i box , using e28 535i single mas fly and e28 clutch kit and e28 release bearing
Sound ok so far !
Do I use a e34 clutch slave or e28 or are they the same ?
Help this is slowing my swap !
I did my research and clutch slave gets little mention leaving me unsure

There was a debate about this a while ago, ive got the same fly/clutch set up as you and ive been using an E30 slave for years with no problems.

yer, I remember Lee, I had a few issues with this but it turned out to be something different in the end.

Like Lee said you can use either a e34 or e28 slave, I have exactly the same set up as you have also and it works fine. On real OEM the e28 slaves seem to have a slightly longer length rod but as Lee said they both work fine.

BTW, the e34 M30 slave is exactly the same as all the M20 slaves and Car parts for less were selling them for £3 recently. I bought one and it is perfect. Rav is running a M20 slave on his M30 and I've had a CP4L salve fitted now for months and its good.

How's the conversion going ? got any pics ?

all the best

Thanks chaps great help
The car is getting there slowly it's been ongoing over last 2years !
She started a 318is diamond blk catc write off and now fully repaired ploy bushed painted underside and colour change
To lagoon green ( underside was painted black ) also all new arms drop links , painted roll bars and beam
I am a little OCD lol ( also involved in ford concours scene ) I have a s2ecort rs turbo which I restored!

The e30 is ready for mot and vic (write off) which I have to do before I drop my m30 in !
I have all bits ready ( well most ) so currently refreshing the m30 paint , gaskets, hoses, plugs water pump etc etc
Should be all tested and dropping it in over next couple of months
I will put a build on the zone but only when I am done and not have a long ongoing thread
:D  thanks again all

yes

iirc all the BMW 6 pot release bearings are the same, but an e28 brg with an e28 clutch kit will be very "OEM"

Just cross referenced part no. On Realoem and both e34 535i and e28 m535i use the same part no. Release bearing

However the Slave doesn't share the same part no. Between models !
Think I wil just order a slave for a e34 hand hope

yes the e34 535 (which has duel mass fly) is described as: OUTPUT CYLINDER CLUTCH D=22,20MM

the e28 m535 (which has thinner single mass fly) is described as: OUTPUT CYLINDER CLUTCH D=20,64MM

so I guessed the MM dimension is the length of the arm, and the e28 I used does have a longer arm than the e34 version

My biting point is right at the top also so I hardly have to dip the clutch at all to change gear

however, Lee has used the e34 version perfectly fine so goes to show either will work fine

Have you heard from lee where his bite point is!
I wonder if this differs given the shorter arm/rod from the slave ?

I think I recall lee saying his was a m20 slave !

I think Lee has a e34 slave but they are the same as the M20 slaves

I only went for the e28 one as i'm thick so I wanted to match the slave with the clutch kit but they will both work as Lee as the e34 one fitted so just get the cheapest !!!!
