with the 3 pipes whats the 3rd one... 2 of thhem are fuel lines in and out... is the 3rd a breather ???

Also the heater Hoses there are 2 goin into the car but have no pipes to join these :S

And on the back of the engine there is a pipe goin into the head... ive seen a few 3.5 engines that dont have this .... ????

I'm not 100% sure but the pipe on the back of the head means you have an e28 head/ engine?

There is a tank breather hose that tucks into the n/s/f suspension turret on an e30, but that extra one looks like it's had a hose clip on it so possibly was fitted to a charcoal cannister for emmisions?

You need to modify a couple of hoses to get the heater matrix connected up, can't remember off hand which ones but have a look on the m30 fitting guide for what you need to sort it

im sure these can be blocked off with a plate got from BMW for a couple of quid, Part number 11

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=11&fg=15

then use E34 top rad hose with the matrix pipe coming off it,

The engine looks E34 to me with the later manifolds and by the looks of it running later management, just strange to see the elbow on the back of the head. :? unless as Jer says its an E28 head on an E34 block

There should be a date stamp on the engine block under the inlet manifold somewhere and also one on the head.
Do you know the engine number? (the one just above the starter) if its a later engine the code will start 34 6K b.
Ill double check where those date stamps are tomorrow as ive still got my original M30 stashed away.

Maybe it is an e34 engine that was fitted to a car that needed the elbow, like an e28? Just an idea

And the cannister can be left off, the vent will just go to atmosphere like the earlier cars

You need to use an M30 PAS pump with M20 hoses.

325i exhaust will be fine, the 325i downpipes will slide into the M30 downpipes like this.

Chopped E34 downpipes.

They just slide in and clamp up, simple.

sorry its a bit off topic but what prop shaft did you use? i'm using an m30 gearbox and the car is currently a 318i cab 1992. i've read the advice and a e36 328i prop seems to be the one recommended. i've found a e36 m3 prop on ebay and wondered if that would fit ?? interested to see what solutions other people have used. thanks :D

You can use the 328 prop, but I had a custom one made from and E34 front half, and E30 rear.
Leeparkes is running a 325 prop after changing the guibo over on the m30 gearbox to the M20 one.

Probably easier to swap the guibo round and get a 325 prop :D

If you can get a 328 prop then it fits straight on, not sure how easy they are to get hold of now as I got mine a couple of years ago
