im sure these can be blocked off with a plate got from BMW for a couple of quid, Part number 11
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=11&fg=15
then use E34 top rad hose with the matrix pipe coming off it,
The engine
looks E34 to me with the later manifolds and by the looks of it running later management, just strange to see the elbow on the back of the head.

unless as Jer says its an E28 head on an E34 block
There should be a date stamp on the engine block under the inlet manifold somewhere and also one on the head.
Do you know the engine number? (the one just above the starter) if its a later engine the code will start 34 6K b.
Ill double check where those date stamps are tomorrow as ive still got my original M30 stashed away.
