Right firstly my name is Mike, I'm newish here, I've been lurking for a while not posting so I'm sorry if I come across real stupid

Im new to m30's, i blew my 325i bottom end to smitherines a month or so ago so decided to m30 my car. I've done everything myself.

Right down to the problem. I've just got around to firing her up and she runs!!!! First time as well  but....she will only start if I give her some throttle and will not idle if I let off she dies. I need ideas as I simply have none and don't know these engines.

Any suggestions welcome :D

Seeing as you lot took too long to reply, I joke.....kinda dead in here lol
I went back to the basics and found the ICV was completely jammed, as in I had to force it with a screwdriver to open it up. I gave it a quick blast with brake and clutch cleaner and she started first turn of the key and idled all by herself!
Soaking the ICV in WD40 overnight to make sure it wont seize up again.

You guys probably would have checked that first i guess.....

Congratulations on getting it sorted. I can supply a chip for the M30B35 that will liven it up significantly, and make it really feel like the big engine it is. Any gratuitous pics of the 325i bottom end? winkeye How you managed to smash it to smithereens is remarkable, as they are extremely strong!

We like to see the gory details on here!

Rav no idea mines saying those times then?

Speedtouch, i may be after a chip at some point, want to get her finished and on the road first. Unfortunatly i didnt take any pics of the old m20 before scraping it, it had 256000 on the clocks on the original engine and a chip with a 7200rpm limiter also i serviced it once when i first got it all that adds up to a rod throught the block apparently :D

Go into 'Profile' at the top of the page, and scroll down to the time zone setting. We are currently on GMT +1 Hour (until 28th October).

I've got one of your chips in my m30, and was very pleased with the difference it made. When pottering about town on light throttle openings it seems much smoother to drive, and can definitely feel the extra mid-range acceleration :)
