There's a couple of wires that need swapping around, IIRC. Details should be somewhere in the M30 section of the engine swaps forum.

Have you followed all the steps in the conversion guide?

I've just cut the black and green wire of the E30 c101 plug, wired it strait to the starter motor.... And now the car won't start, the brake fluid low light is always on the dash?

Yellow and Black is defiantly the starter, i spent ages having to rewire my loom with heat shrink and solder as it was butchered to death and only partially wired.
Put the black and Green wire back.
what engine did the car come out of ?
Not sure if its any help but what i did was wire an e30 c101 plug to the m30 loom. the c101 plug i used was from a 1989 325i. all i did was solder it all together colour to colour apart from the oil level sensor and oil level static sensor
Oil static on e30 was green/yellow and went to blue/violet on m30 loom
Oil level sensor on e30 was blue and went to blue/white on m30 loom

Its starting ok with the green/black connected then but you have no temp gauge

No it won't start with the green and black to the starter, runs fine with no wires chopped or put in different places... Just no heater blower when running and no temp gauge working?

Ive got you
Is there anything all ready there ?
Just had a read through my thread, with my loom there was allready a green and black wire connected hanging down where the starter area is, so i connected itFacelift wiring mods (these apply to those with a facelift shell) - the engine will run without doing them, but for everything to function correctly, the following are needed;
To get the 'economy swingometer thingy' working you need to swap pins in the M30 loom:
Pin 3 (black and white) and pin 8 (black and purple).
To get the electric windows and sunroof to work with the doors shut and for the heater blower to work at all you need to connect the black and green wire from pin 15 on the E30 C101 to a small spade connector on the starter motor.
Is there anything all ready there ?

Did you also swap the pins around for the "swingometer" thingy?

I've replace the temp sensor for a 320 one as told, which is still a 2 pin? Not one pin as I thought the one pin sensor was for the early E30's?

Wrong way around. Very early E30s used a two pin sensor, later ones used a single pin sensor, earthing through its body to the engine.Minstrel wrote:I've replace the temp sensor for a 320 one as told, which is still a 2 pin? Not one pin as I thought the one pin sensor was for the early E30's?

Do the door mirrors work?

In that case, whatever is stopping your heater fan from working is nothing to do with the engine conversion. Relay K7 (controlled by the green/black wire to the starter motor) is common to the fan and the mirrors.Minstrel wrote:Yes they do
Temp gauge: remove the plug from the sensor and short the wire to earth. Does the gauge go to full hot with the ignition on?

The relay is working, and the temp gauge has gone strait to hot/red when shorted out

Which terminal on the starter did you wire it to?Minstrel wrote:I've just cut the black and green wire of the E30 c101 plug, wired it strait to the starter motor.... And now the car won't start
Although the M30 guide tells you to wire it to the starter the black/green wire from the body loom doesnt really need to go to the starter, it only needs to be earthed.

The green/black wire is wired correctly, and is not the reason the heater fan doesn't work.
If you shorted the wire at the plug to the sensor, then the sensor is faulty/incorrect, or you have the wrong pin connected. Check that the pin in the plug that you earthed matches the single pin on the sensor for position.

Right, think its my 320 sensor. Do I need to use a single pin one? Or twin... As the plug on my M30 engine loom is a twin pin connector plug.

You need a single pin brown sensor, as fitted to the vast majority of E30s. You'd be unlikely to find an E30 two pin one these days.
