a mate used an E32 engine with fly by wire and he says you will need a complete throttle body from a normal 535 engine and all the hoses/pipes to match it, just removed your electric set up and screw the manual on and also you need a manual engine loom as the auto loom is no use to many xtra wires and you only need 1 ECU ending in 179 with the manual loom, also you need the E34 throttle cable and bracket for inlet manifold to hold cable in place, straight forward change over

If you are remembering me, yep, still got the fly by wire in mine. Works perfectly, though the 18 months I spent in limphome mode because I had not installed the dashboard EML (BMW's acronym for electronic throttle) warning light was a bit of a waste :o:

To the OP, the fly by wire does work well but swapping for the cable throttle version only needs the throttle body, throttle cable, and maybe a couple of small hoses. The 2nd ECU is dedicated to the fly by wire so could be removed if you go cable.

As an aside, EML on on E32/E34 means the car came with traction control. Might be a cool thing to get working in an E30 - I have never bothered on mine. EML also means cruise control is plug and play, and controlled by the ECU and electronic throttle. I do use that a lot in mine.

Martin.

Thanks guys so think i am going with cable fof throttle and will get another wire loom but can i still keep my old ecu to run it or do i need the one that comes with the loom i get as it will keep costs down if i only have to purchase the loom and can anyone recommend exactly what car to get loom off as i know some have a bigger plug that doesnt fit into e30 plug also does this mean my tc will be on permanent or will this come off when engine is only running 1 ecu and new loom

I believe engine loom and ECU is the same regardless of cable throttle or EML - so don't think there is any need to buy either of these. Have a look through the sticky M30 build thread to see how to wire up the M30 engine loom into the E30 car loom.

TC will be permanently off.
