Hi guys, just signed up,was a member before, cant remember my old username/password lol  - was a long time ago...cant believe how many 335s around now..when i started toying with the build, there were only afew done. All good ,means theres alot more info out there:)
Ok afew Q's..anyone done a twin turbo m30 ?,,who does/does anyone do forged pistons for the m30?,,on the turbo conversions you guys are running,is it thicker gaskets or a spacer between the block and gasket youre using to lower the compression??,, has anyone lowered the comp by pocketing the pistons??,,manifold....ive read afew saying custom is the way to go..but as far as having a basis to work with, what ss manifold would be best to start to modify,,one for an m20 or the later pair from an e36 328,which are available on Fleabay in turbo applications?(I have a tigwelder,cutting/bending gear),,and finally -clutch/flywheel,,uprated clutches are available or will it have to be custom? Is the later 735 flywheel easy to lighten, its not dual mass or..?,Ive never seen mine yet...
All the above applies to m30 motors from either an 735i auto and a manual car(if theres any diferences to their internals)as I have both here as runners ,theyre 1992 reg.Loadsa questions there lol, look forward to your opinions/replies.

Driftboy would be your man... His was only a single turbo m30 but still bloody rapid, with decent set of anchors to match. Took me for a spin in it once, massive grin factor!

Before any answers can be given what is your power goal?

from your post there is nothing that suggest a potential power goal, power delivery or anything.

Dont think they need that, its not very technical questions,"yes ,no,heres a link" answers will do.There arent any goals yet, obviously the bigger the better as far as dyno numbers go.Other than that, its building a strong base for future tuning without the need for tearing it down again very soon, its still in the planning stages.I havent been near the bmw in 8 years or more,so kinda rusty over what i leanrned before about the m30 and what was availaable,Im sure theres alot more around now than back then.I have sucessfully turbo'ed other non factory turbo engines before.Just dont know much about whats available for these beemer blocks yet.,hence the questions :)

The M30 can be boosted to about 400hp with standard internals, Gunni will confirm this, but anything after that you will need to spend big money.
Look for "StaleyTurbo" post on his M30 turbo

i think thats pushing it a bit, but if true it makes you wonder how much power could be squeezed of of the alpinas

That's to be on the safe side, you need to have a very good engine for 500hp I would presume.

Ha ha , so I did, but really, I think either a rebuild with standard parts should see it do that.
Kos, what engine you got for sale? E34

I´d not go much past 350hp on a 100% standard engine

500-550hp with ARP studs.

600-650hp with a cam and ARP studs,

all stock bottom end setups.

I pulled my finger out and did my own homework...Ive found a supplier of forged pistons the USA,they also do rods, debateable if theyre nesessary?i tried ARP directly, had no joy,but then found a place in Germany selling the bolts.im thinking of wire ringing the block and using a steel gasket to achive a suitable comp ratio.Im just not sure is it twin or a single turb im going for(the extra hassle for squeezing in twins worth it,presuming theyll only fit under than top mounted).Gonna measure up the manifold on my e36 against the m30 one before i purchase one for a cut n shut.

Clutch

and find half shafts if you plan on something like 25-30psi boost

Yea as long as you don´t launch it with slicks often at more then 20psi from dead stop.
