because of the M30 conversion iv gone for a Mk1 golf brake booster but then it dawned on me it might not give enough to power the 6pot calipers i have?
what do you guys think?

a smaller servo will not affect the bias, or ratio between the M/C area and caliper piston area.
all it will do is increase the effort needed to brake at any given rate. just press harder
i suspect you'll also need to upgrade the m/c to one with a larger bore anyway, 6 pot calipers will probably have a bg old piston area and you'll get a spongey pedal with little 'feel'.

Lovely just the advice I was after cheers Gaz. One more question though. What BMW m/c would fit on to the mk1 brake booster?

6pot wilwoods front
4pot Porsche rear

Twin Turbo M60 in progress
I'm going to use the m/c cylinder from the donor E34 535i.
Standard at the moment, but intending to upgrade shortly to a set of 4 pots, probably either WMS or Wilwood.

i know a 750i one and a E30 M3 one will fit in place of the standard E30 unit. a mod needs to be made to the pushrod to use the golf servo though afaik.STiBen wrote:Lovely just the advice I was after cheers Gaz. One more question though. What BMW m/c would fit on to the mk1 brake booster?

A Mk2 Golf srvo needs an extension to the push rod, a Mk1 Golf GTI servo is a straight swap.
I've been using the 750i master cylinder with mine and E34 540i front calipers, feels good.

you need to make something like that.
i used a bolt, then dremeled the head till it was the same size as the mc, and cut to length (think it was 25mm in the end). place it so the servo faces the head of the bolt if that makes sense. worked perfectly
The 750i master cylinder sounds like a possible find there martin. Cheers for that.
As for the mk1 booster it is a straight swap. Nice and easy just the way l like it.

abit of a update on the MK1 golf brake booster. to who ever is changing to one of these, there is no need to mod the pin, you can bore out the mk1 golf plate to a 10mm hole instead of making a thinner pin which rattles about the E30 rod.
ill take some pictures later to show what i mean
