Right, I had the engine out yesterday to do a new clutch and all that goes with it, Removed the rest of the sound proofing and beat the tunnel a little to make room to go back on position 3.

However, The brake servo is in the way. Has anyone else had this ? If so what was done to get round it ?

Or should I just cut the front top cross member out, move the rad forward a bit and use pin's on the bonnet.

Mine went in pos 3 with no probs, mine is close to the servo but i ground a bit off the edge of the inlet mani to help clear it,

I might have a pic somewhere

Nope, only one ive got is this with the hose hiding the clearance, but there is only about a 10mm gap between them after gringing maybe 5mm off the manifold.

Edit: i found another

I have no where near that much room. I will have a hole in the manifold if I grind it enog=ugh to clear. I will look at the servo mount tomorrow and see if i can space it on the right hand side, may give me some tilt.

Funny, we both used a green wire to the starter motor :)

What mounts are you using? ie is the one on the passenger side lower than drivers side making the engine tilt

I've got loads of space inbetween the mani and servo.
As lee said, what mounts are you using, and if the mani is giving you probs, change it for a clio or golf one like the boys do for the m50 swaps.

Using beefys mount's. The engine is at it's correct angle, So not the issue, Might just be the awfull ate servo that is the sixe of a dustbin lid.

No i meant the rubber mount,
the mount on the pass side on mine was squashed like a donut and on start up it would tap the servo, when i put a new mount in it stopped touching the servo.

Have you got the engine in pos 3 but its touching the servo? or you cant get the engine back because of the servo?

They are o/e and new.

I can get the engine on p3 on the n/s. But the servo is on the way of me getting it on the o/s.

Ah i think i know what you mean now, i had grief getting one of the mounts (arms) over the stud on the rubber mount but cant remember which side it was, i ended up taking the arm off the block, line the engine up roughly put the mount (arm) over the stud then re-bolt the arm to the block

Im sure you cant get the arm onto the stud without doing this.

that's where mine is. E30.de mounts with a new hole drilled between P2 and P3. there is marks on the leads / rad from contact.

Ha ha. When I take my rad out, you can see the shape of the lead's and top of the cap in it.

I have done the hard brake test a few times and it is only the fin's. So will give up and leave it alone.

One way to get the engine mount bracket over the rubber mounting is to loosen the nut on the underside of it, so the stud drops down. The stud can also me moved around quite a bit too.

I used a Mk1 Golf GTI servo, which sorted the clearance issue in pos.3.

I have heard this before but I never seen.

Was it a straight swap with the sevo, or was there anything I need to know ?

Totally straight swap.

It is smaller in diameter but wider.
Some say the capacity is a little less so not as much servo effect (harder pedal), but I never really drove mine with the standard servo so I don't know about that, but it feels ok to me.

Other Golf servos need the actuator rod extending, but not the GTI one.
