charlE30 - your cars look flippin' mint dude! Very nice!
Been following your build, and I got my engine started just after you, it is a great feeling and a relief!!
Would be great to meet up with other 335i owners as I have never actually seen another one yet! Good to get inspiration and tips from other builds to improve your own too. Hope to see you at Santa Pod!?

Well today I thought I'd start tidying up the wiring using the wiring cover from an 318, I'm going to shorten and lengthen bits for a factory fit finish

The nice thing with this cover is that it provides somewhere for the diagnostic socket and relays

I've got four plugs that go nowhere, am I right in thinking I can trace them back and remove completley??

I got the electrical bug after fitting remote central locking to my other car this morning, quite pleased really as I'm colour blind
(and no I don't see everything in black and white
)

No going back now, I removed them all as they don't plug into anything and everything works
Shortening bits and lengthening others in a loom is hard work when it's still attached to the engine, having to lean over the wing hurts the back of your legs
I do think in the long run it'll be worth it though

Yep that plug had wires going from the ECU to the auto TPS, I'm now left with three wires to connect to my manual TPS.DanThe wrote:Im pretty sure that plug Steve refered to is for Auto's.

When doing the others though, I just sat on the fusebox/wing with my legs on top of the engine
And your right about the 318 wiring covers, cant beat em IMO

i'd be interested in what wires are needed etc... did your auto TPS hit the bonnet? how much more room do you have with the manual one? i'm wondering if my battered auto tps is the reason for my missfire...?charlE30 wrote:Yep that plug had wires going from the ECU to the auto TPS, I'm now left with three wires to connect to my manual TPS.DanThe wrote:Im pretty sure that plug Steve refered to is for Auto's.

oh, that 318i wiring cover looks sweet! my diagonostics socket is mounted on a bracket made from the old M20 one (where it sits on the inlet manifold) and it fixes to the bracket on the wing where the relays used to sit (next to the PAS tank). i reckon yours looks neater though

My auto TPS touches but haven't finished the loom so haven't fitted my man TPS yet, it will definetly give more clearancegareth wrote: i'd be interested in what wires are needed etc... did your auto TPS hit the bonnet? how much more room do you have with the manual one? i'm wondering if my battered auto tps is the reason for my missfire...?
If you fit a manual one it has only three wires instead of six, when you peel back the rubber boot on the A/TPA you will see a big black cable that has three smaller wires in.. this is the one that isn't needed as it goes to the black plug by my thumb in the above picture..

No waaaay! I will not allow it!
Surely your'e nearly done, aren't you?
If youv'e got a mig welder, get some tubing and make the downpipes!
Keep at it, i'm sure it will be worth the wait!
