The plan was to paint the centres Gunmetal the same as my BBS's, still undecided

Ive got two sets of BBS Mahles, a set on the car and a set up the loft

Image

Thought about sending a pair of them to these guys to get banded

Bottom hoses are a nightmare on the E28 rad, my tip is to soak the end of the hose with boiling water so it becomes more flexible then lube it up 8) im sure i heard waxoil is a good lube to use, think it was yoda who said it.

Rimz are up for sale,

I bought them on a whim :) then after having them on the car for the day i decided i prefer the Mahles

Mine doesn't fit at all, not long enough. Going to have to get something custom made or get a flexible hose and bend it into shape :?

23" long pipe is what's needed IIRC. I've got a metal turbo pipe in the way at the bottom as well so reckon i'll be better off with some flexi pipe, easier to work with :)

Zaust is on....

Pics of the modded manifold fitted to the old engine.

Image

Image

Bolted up in situe, there's loads of clearance now 8) well about 20mm anyway :)

Image

After this i let rip and got the whole system fitted, pics of the back box straps fitted up.

Image

Image

^^^Ignore the brake discs 8O i have a fresh set ready to go on.

Final shot 8)

Image

Well the conversion is now done but i havent drove it yet as i have other issues to sort out :( but the engine sounds fantastic and spins up very quick, it isnt as smooth at idle but im guessing thats down to a feather weight flywheel and lumpy cam or even the fact the engine has sat a while and needs a good Italion tune :D

Nice work Lee 8) I'm going sort the exhaust on mine this week, just need to get some more studs, nuts and springs for the downpipes.

With regards to the bottom hose, I've got an e28 m535 rad and bottom hose, and it all fits together perfectly

That's an unreasonable amount of manifold clearance! :)

Do you have a E30 rack still or is that a E36 or Z3 one?

Well ive finally got to the bottom of my dodgy idle problem :D

After testing everything possible the last thing to do was a compression test, started pulling all the plug leads off then noticed number 6 plug lead had a hefty split in it.

Ignore the gimp gloves :D im sick of my hands looking like a miners..

Image

Well number 6 lead is the one with the pulse wire on it :banghead: what a pita that is trying to feed the wire round the front of the engine. All the leads were fine before the engine went in as i checked them, im guessing the lead got caught on something as it was going in as that area is very close to the battery tray, i dont know?
Anyway, put it all back together and hey presto silky (ish) smooth idle
8)

MOT next week

Nice one Lee, it's nice when you find an obvious defect causing a running issue like that.

Why the  about the MOT, surely it'll fly through it?

My plans went out the window a couple of weeks ago regarding the MOT but it went today and...

Passed

The car went to the MOT station on a trailer but with a clean bill of health i drove it home

Well first of all compared to the compact the E30 feels very old and noisy and i wasnt keen for the first mile or so until i floored it on the dual carriageway and then the fun began :D

This new donk feels just like a normal M30 below 3k but after that it just loves to be revved and pulls hard all the way to the limiter, normal M30's run out of breath at around 5k, this thing doesnt 8)

Problem is this though it doesnt feel like a 260hp lump, if i had to guess using my arse dyno id say its around 240hp. Its quicker than when it was normal M30 and its quicker than the compact but i was expecting a bit more :? mind you ive only drove it about 5 miles so not realy got the feel for it yet plus i couldnt really go beserk as there's no tax on it :D
Also when i got home the brakes felt like they were seized on a bit, they were fine when tested on the MOT rollers. so thats something else ive got to sort out, and maybe haltering performance a tad :)

Anyway, im well pleased and all i can say is....
