Here we go again
*update*
Alpina M30 3.5 B10 engine acquired

5 digit stamp on the head to confirm its the real deal

Block is also stamped B11/2
Spec over a normal M30
Forged custom mahle pistons (high comp)
M5 conrods
Flowed head with hemi combustion chambers
Bigger valves
268 degree cam
Remapped ECU
iirc they did something with the crank too, im sure ive read that it was lightened and balanced
Result 261bhp in non cat form with about the same torque
Well the first thing to do is clean this mofo up as its filthy and not up to my standards
not sure what colour to do it yet though.
But under the rocker its very clean for its age with no visible wear on the cam at all

I will check the crank when i do the sump gasket
Ill update as i go along with plenty pics as usual

Yes, i did consider putting it into an E28 but id always be wondering what it would be like in an E30.ImysE30 wrote:Is this replacing the standard M30?
I think im gonna need a longer diff
Cook, yes it will be going on the rollers when its done, Hitech motorsport is only about 2 mles from me, they have reliable rollers and know there stuff

Cheers guys.
Gareth, it came from a phone call off a mate. He was at a breakers and said something along the lines of "there's an engine like yours here but its got Alpina on the ECU, the bloke tells me its out of a 'B' something??. Coat on and shot down there....
Which led to this

Spencer, there wont be much left of my old M30 once the swap is done as the Alpina is basically a bare engine.

Taking the oil spray bar out and "Crimping" it, helps keep the pressure to the furthest 2 rockers.

If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right!

No updates yet apart from confirming the cam is Alpina
From doing some research ive found Alpina used a BMW camshaft and reprofiled it to the lift required.
To check, the BMW stamp has red paint around it and if you remove the plate at the back of the head to reveal the end of the cam it will be hand engraved with a code
The red...err orange patch on the cam

Pic of the code

I am tempted to remove the head and spruce it up a bit but it could turn out to be an expensive job, i dont know as ive never stripped a head down and rebuilt it, opinions??? should i shouldnt i?
To get the head off and back on would be £100 with the gasket, bolts & skim. Not even sure if the head gasket is specific to the B10?
mmmmmmmmm........

I think the H/G id the same as a normal B35, but stripping the head will need new bolts, and more bits.
Was the engine in good nick overall??

There's a guy on 5forum who has a B10 and knows them inside out, dropped him a pm last week but its still in my outbox
I asked him questions about the HG and the cam, i also i want to know what compression ratio they are.
I havent heard this engine run
The guy assured me it was in fine fettle, ive known the guy for years also he knows if he's telling lies ill rattle his lips off.
What you on about anyway, this is an M30 were talking about

Something else i remembered, the oil fliter housing on this engine has two threaded holes for an oil cooler, Im tempted to rig it up using an M20 cooler but then again ive read with modern oils its not really needed
This swaps giving me a head ache and i aint even started it yet

I'd be careful with skimming too much of that Lee, as the cam is different, maybe spikey therefore opening the valve longer and getting nearer the piston heads.

I need to know what the CR is before start skimming, plus ive heard these are already high comp in standard form.

Found it.
"The B10 motor was also 3430 cc, with 261 PS on 10.6:1 compression pistons (346 Nm torque). Note that they were installing cats as well during this time and the cat equipped version of the B10 motors was only 254 PS."
