You can use a dual mass release bearing on a single mass fly and vice versa, same diameter and the shoulders are at the same height, iirc M20's are the same too.rich318i wrote:they are not mate !!!leeparkes wrote:All release bearings are the same.

Even the s38 is in that list, although I'm not even sure why that was mentioned?!

Lee, do you know how much the m5 flywheel I've got in mine weighs?leeparkes wrote:Dunno if any of these numbers help.
Thats a Sachs E28 3.5 friction plate.
My flywheel is E28 525i, the lightest out the lot at 7.5KG, 3.5's are 10KG.
You can use ANY E28 M30 flywheel and ANY E28 M30 240mm friction plate but the pressure plate must be from a 3.5 to handle the power.

Yes I think I will!
Mcbonio, I have a dualmass flywheel with clutch up in my loft that came with my engine, I haven't tried it in my car so I don't know what condition it is in as I went straight for the single mass, but if you get stuck for one I can post it to you to try, and then sort out some £ if it is any good. Postage will be a bitch though as it is heavy as fook! Not sure if you had sorted one from Rav but if you're struggling to find one give me a shout.
If it was me though, I'd get a single mass flywheel, got it refaced and fit a new clutch, and then you're good to go for many miles of happy m30 motoring
Costs more initially, but at least you know it is all sorted and won't need any work for a few years especially if you are planning on keeping the car for a while (this is what I did to mine by the way)
