I've had my '87 325(no e no I) for about 4 months and it runs okay. When I got it it needed a lot of help but I finally got it running. But it is unbearable slow.
I just wanted some opinions on an M30 swap. I know that an M5x swap would be better and all that, but for whatever reason I really like the idea of an M30. I know Alpina did it and put turbos on it.
What's the general consensus on an M30 powered E30? 192.168.0.1 routerlogin 192.168.l.l
Opinions on the M30 swap?

Biased here but I love mine
it's not super fast but fast enough 0-60mph circa 6.9 seconds it's the low down torque I love that makes it so driveable.

Oh yes it is loads quicker than 2.5 but not by modern car standards, all though 20mph-60mph It can stay with an E36 M3

The car will be an 'e' or an 'i' finding out which would explain a lot. (a pic of the engine from the top would reveal which) I have never known a good running 325i to be unbearably slow. If it is an 1987 'i' it will be the High - Compression engine (depending where in the world you are)
Alpina never put turbos on the E30 B6 3.5 although they did raise the power by 43bhp with pistons, cam and exhaust. It was only 0.3s quicker to 60 and it never handled as well as the 2.7.
If you don't want a plastic engine (and I can sympathise with that) a good running tried and tested 2.9 M20 would be my choice. A swap done right is never as cheap as it sounds.
All comes down to where you are, what you want and if your car will ever go round many bends
