hi all

just thought id start a post here as I have just built a fresh engine including shells and rings and also had a head skimmed and ported with the valve throats bored out. the car has m5 throttle bodies fitted with matched conversion plates from paul burke in America, lightened flywheel, waste spark and also the car sits on megasquirt ecu software.

I appreciate the engine is super tight and not been run in at all because the map on the ecu caused massive piston slap and bore wash but the car only made 207bhp with 210ftlb. the mapper said the car could benefit from a cam as the cams are soft but surely the car should have made more power than this?

any suggestions?[/url]

Which M5 are the throttle bodies from, e28, e34? Might help someone come up with some ideas.

Surely you'd want it properly run in before you put it on a dyno? 8O

ideally I did want in properly run in mate but I couldn't as the map was so far out it was causing all sorts of issues. not ideal I know.
the throttle bodies are S38 throttle bodies and I am also using the m5 injectors on the original m30 fuel rail. also have 4.5 bar Regulator.

Is the figure measured at the wheels or flywheel?

If its at the wheels that is a strong figure you've got there

The cam is standard. compression was fine but cant remember the figure, timing also bob on as this was causing an issue with mapping but this was all set.

This figure was measured at the fly not wheels either.

could this be that the engine is so tight that after running in this may generate a few horses?

Yes, it will gain a few horses once bedded in and loosened up a bit.

Sounds like the MS is in need of fine-tuning also; don't be running it too long with piston slap and bore wash, or you'll be in need of another rebuild PDQ!

I did think that was possibly the case. the megasquirt setup is now fully mapped and tuned perfectly but the system was not setup before hand thus needing a new engine lol...

thanks for your comments. going to get some tax on her and start driving it to bed her in.
