There is John, it was well tight in there. I was surprised as it was an auto lump, it was definitely there as I couldn't get the f!ucker out at all mate.

Forgot to take pics, but today i removed the radiator mounting tabs and fitted the e28 rad, allmost made to measure in those holes, couldn't believe it really. Also fitted the fan, i went for a 16 inch curved blade e bay fan, which draws 10A. I have to say it looks very good. Bang on cue, a DanThe loom arrived in the post also, THANKS DAN - TOP BLOKE :)

Day with the kids tomorrow but basically it's carry on preping the engine bay, just fiddling about really whilst i wait for my engine crane back

cheers

i would leave the rad out until you have the engine fitted in, espically one as masssive as an m30. its too dangerous to try putting the lump in with it there as 1 slip an inch in the wrong direction and its through your rad. like a wrecking ball man trying to knock the dwelling and keep the glasshouse! :)

engine looks sweet man

Needed to get the fan fitted and the header tank as my donor car is a 318. So wondered round B+Q looking for inspiration and found this 2mm thick alluminium strip
Used it to mount the fan, its really close to the front of the rad which is good.

Image

and made a couple of brackets for the header tank

i'll take em all off, paint them, rust proof the holes and job's a good um
engine crane still not fixed...................

AHOY SHIPMATE !!!

Made a bit of progress today

fitted the lovely Danthe loom, great bit of kit and absolute bargain also  , thanks Dan

Then tidyed up all the engine bay wiring and fiddled a bit with the fan to get it right up to the radiator.

bit of rust proof painting and that's about it really, takes longer than you think to get everthing ready in the bay.

should be ready for the engine any day now but my engine crane is still in for repair, for the sake of £150 i'm tempted to just buy a new one

i ran the fan loom through this spare gromit

Image

put a relay into K1 and attached the wire - the one with the long heatshrink on here

also attached the power to the underside of fuse way 3 - its the big blue one here

Image

power to the thermostatic switch wire joins this black and green (unused air con wire)

Image

thermostatic switch

Image

put these heat shrink covers on the connection to the fan

Image

got the fan right up to the rad to maximise cooling

Image

soldered then heat shrinked the fuse box wire

Image

right, promised the wife i'd clean the kitchen floor before she gets home so better get cracking

Ahoy!

Wire up another relay/temp switch to your rad while you can!
It's just 2 more wires from your fuse box to the front of your car.
You can have your low speed resistor sitting in stock position
Image
M30s do generate heat - and you don't want to have your fan spinning at full speed all the time.

Very similar to the one i'm using Jim, you can see it in one of the pics in my thread.

But we modified it to have a longer arm to reach into the bay.

If it's rated at 2 tons, it'll have no issues.
