Hello guys.

This might be a massively long shot. But can anyone tell me whether this is a shrick cam?

Image

I’ve been battling with a weird choppy idle for a while now and while doing the valve adjustment the other day I noticed these two yellow stripes on the cam.

I found out my head gasket needs replacing after doing the valve adjustment but while researching parts I noticed that schrick cams have the same yellow stripes. Not got any better photos at the mo and I’ll get more when the head comes off but this would absolutely explain my idle issue.

Thanks

Not seen the yellow stripes on either of my cams. if it is a recent Schrick then it will have Sch / rick in the casting just behind No.6 valves, An older one has the full word in a raised squared off area like this one here

I think there might be a third variation on the casting but either way, should be easy to see if it is if you give it a full rotation by hand

Could be Kent cams/Catcams etc but bad idle is usually a vacuum leak

Here’s a video of the idle. I’d say it’s more choppy than rough? And I’ve absolutely checked it to death for vacuum leaks and can’t find anything at all. Any thoughts?

As for the cams I was looking at heads and came across this advert on eBay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375060877411 ... media=COPY

That’s how I noticed the yellow markings and started looking at schrick cams.
I’ll pop the rocker box back off tomorrow and have a look for any more markings properly.

As I say the head will be off it soon enough so I’ll be able to have a proper look at it just would be nice to put my mind at rest! Haha

The paint might be something that is only on the 304 cam or may have been a certain period of time between my original and the new one I have here now, I have only dealt with the 272 284 and 288 Schrick cams. If someone has put a 304 in there or even a 288 the choppy running would make sense as the 304 is is not really meant for a 2.5 and needs the better valve springs or you may float a valve into a piston.

If it is a Schrick it will say so in the casting, when you get the front pulley off you should also see the part number etched on the end of it

my guess it'slikely an aftermarket cam. it has new HD rockers, the yellow paint, new looking lobes etc

measure the lobes or the lift if you have the equipment
