evening folks.
a bit of a back story, i've been tasked by a mate to help strip down & rebuild his 2.8 m20 stroker to a turbo.
he's already got a lot of the parts incl low comp pistons, custom manifold for the turbo (he did mention twin scroll), the turbo itself (not a clue on the spec), MS to run it all incl coil packs, intercooler the lot,
now the bit i'm stuck on is the oil filter, as from what i've seen on line with a lot of m20 turbo's is lack of room under the manifold/turbo near the oil filter & i've read online about an oil filter relocation kit.
i mentioned it to my mate who went out & bought one (take off plate, remote filter head, sandwich plate to feed the oil cooler & use as a take off for the turbo oil feed line, AN fittings & braided hose),
now my idea is to mount the filter on the inner wing where the ignition coil would have been (it's going to be using coil packs remember?) would that be a good place to mount it?
the only other places i can think of are A) on the underside of the front chassis rail using rivnuts or time serts, but i'm not keen on that one due to the fact if the rivnuts/time serts lost grip then bye bye oil filter as it lands on the road.
B) on the battery tray, again not over keen due to how high up it would be, wether that would cause any issues i don't know.
personally i think my idea of the inner wing would be the best bet.
i've searched all over the net about this but keep drawing blanks.
has anyone else done this? if so how did you get on with it?
remote mount oil filter

If you put it in the battery tray what are you bothered about Steve?
Does it matter (up to a point) how far away it is from the block ?
With it being a turbo, in the battery tray area you could also put two filters in ????

my only concern about putting it in the battery tray was that (to me anyway) it would look like an untidy afterthought.
but, now you've mentioned twin filters thats got me thinking (never a good thing).

if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

I think all turbo cars should have twin filters for max protection and for what they cost to change it`s a nice piece of mind to have.

Well I'd better update this.
Finally got round to fitting it all.
I was originally going to mount the filter head/oil cooler sandwich plate under the front drivers side chassis rail,
But when I offered it up it would've hung to low & be at risk from damage (bear in mind this is a road/track car).
So looking around I decided to mount it on the inner wing in a space just under/between the ignition coil & washer bottle.
Just got to tighten all the AN fittings up, fit a new filter & refill the oil.
Then the moment of truth, starting the engine & checking for leaks.

I read somewhere about using the m10/s14 filter as it's shorter,
Might look into that.

Well thats the M10 (shorter) filter on order.
Soon as that gets here top up the oil, prime it by hand & check for any leaks.
Fingers crossed.
