Hello,

I am swapping out my M20 that came in my car for another M20.
(long story not very interesting)

I have brought the another M20 complete with Loom and box etc, etc all attached. After spending all weekend getting the new engine in, I have come to plug it all in today and have realised that the Looms is different. (School Boy error)

Although both engines have come out of 88 cars. I think one of the looms is a pre face loom and the other is a post.

The main difference seems to be this Plug is missing on the new (older Loom)

I have plugged in the ECU (the one that come with the engine) which is the only plug on the loom that come with the engine and I can hear everything priming, but the started motor. This wont turn over at all. Could be because of the Loom?

So..... I understand that the Looms changed quite a bit over the years. But is there any reason why my old (original) Loom wouldn't work on the engine I have just installed?

Can I just swap the Loom?

Many thanks for all your help in advance!

First thing, have you checked the Pin 20 C101 plug warning on the WIKI?

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/C101

The main functions on the looms did not really change, its only a few odds and ends, ie the Pin 20 thing above and a few plug styles.

The starter circuit is very simple, I would not be suspecting the loom at this stage, have you checked all the contacts are on the starter correctly and the engine/stater has a good earth connection?
