Hi I am currently doing a engine swap 1989 325i into the body of 1990 316i. I was wanting to swap the brakes and suspension over as well but I was wondering will the non abs hydraulic brake system of the 316i support the discs and calipers of the abs supported 325i. I would prefer to have non abs if possible and just to swap over trailing arms to fit calipers and discs to and connect into the existing hydraulic system of the 316i.

Straight swap*, with no problems, but I don't understand why you wouldn't want to fit the ABS as well, if you have all the bits available.
*Use 316i front springs, or it'll sit high.
Make sure you know about and check the engine plug pin 20 potential problem.

As the M20 is being fitted to the 316i, shouldn't the 325i springs be used?Brianmoooore wrote:Straight swap*

You have a point there! Really should spend more time reading the questions before answering.jmc330i wrote:As the M20 is being fitted to the 316i, shouldn't the 325i springs be used?Brianmoooore wrote:Straight swap*

Thanks for the replies. To clarify I did not want to fit the abs hydraulic system from the 325i but to use the rear discs and calipers from it. I just wanted to know if the rear discs and calipers will work effectively on the 316i hydraulic system. Thanks again
